WHAT’S HAPPENING IN GREATER ROME
The Northwest Georgia Winds and Guests will present “Across the Big Pond XVII” on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Forum River Center. The annual gala Celtic concert will include bagpipers, dancers, soloists and more. Admission is $5.
The Porcelain Art Guild will meet Saturday at 10 a.m. at Paula Baker’s studio. The “Glazing Porcelain Orchids” workshop will be conducted by Anna Nichols. For more information call 706-266-6534.
The Three Rivers Singers will perform a free concert Sunday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 3000 Garden Lakes Blvd. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary as the Three Rivers Singers present a program called “If It’s Baroque, Don’t Fix It,” a collection of timeless favorites including Baroque choral pieces and some entertaining modern interpretations of music by Bach, Handel, Pachelbel, Purcell and Vivaldi.
The Friends of the Library’s springtime Paperback Book Sale will be in the Oostanaula Room of the Rome-Floyd County Library on Riverside Parkway. The sale will be open April 26-27 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and April 29 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All regular-size paperbacks will be 25 cents or 5 for a $1. All oversize paperbacks will be 50 cents or 3 for a $1.
The 27th annual Up the Creek Trail and Century Ride will be held April 29. Early registration will be held April 28 from 2-6 p.m. at Cycle Therapy, 27 Central Plaza. Ride-day registration will be held at 6:30 a.m. at the Forum River Center, 301 Tribune St. Rides of 32, 53, 71, 81, 104 and 109 miles will depart at 8 a.m. The Harbin Clinic family trail ride of 5 miles will depart at 9 a.m. For more information visit www. itsyourrace.com.
The New Horizons Band will have an organizational meeting on May 4 at 6:30 p.m. in Franklin Hall at Shorter University. This group is comprised of members 50 years old or older who either played a band instrument in school and haven’t played in many years or would like to learn to play an instrument and play in a group setting. The band will have rehearsals on May 4, May 11 and May 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Rehearsals will resume in August. The third annual A Night to Remember: An Adult Prom benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association will take place May 13 at 8 p.m. at the Forrest Place Ballroom on Broad Street. The event with a masquerade theme will help fund local programs, services, advocacy and research by the Alzheimer’s Association.
