Columbia took the rub­ber game of a three-game se­ries at State Mu­tual Sta­dium on Wed­nes­day. The Fire­flies got on the board in the first and sec­ond in­nings on a wild pitch to score a run and a bases loaded walk. Rome made it a 2-1 con­test in the fifth on a Lu­cas Her­bert RBI sin­gle. Columbia added an in­sur­ance run on a Michael Paez sac­ri­fice fly in the sev­enth for the 3-1 score. Rome made it a 3-2 game in the eighth when Kurt Hoek­stra crossed the plate on a wild pitch and Columbia held on for the win.

Juan Yepez went 2 for 4 with a dou­ble and a run scored. He and Her­bert each had a stolen base.

Rome starter Ian An­der­son (1-1) is hit with the loss. An­der­son went four in­nings al­low­ing two runs on two hits while strik­ing out seven. En­der­son Franco struck out five and al­lowed one run on three hits in three in­nings of re­lief. Matt Cus­tred had three strike­outs in two in­nings.

The Braves be­gin a seven-game road trip to­day in Greenville, South Carolina, with a four-game se­ries against the Drive.
