David “Dave” Leroy Jackson, age 70, of Rome, Ga., returned to his heavenly home on June 20, 2017 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

David was born to the late Dave and Virginia Jackson in Detroit, Mich. on February 18, 1947. He graduated from Lawrence Technical University in 1977 with a degree in Business Administra­tion. Dave served his country in the US Navy from 1967 to 1969 aboard the USS Oriskany. David moved to Atlanta in 1978 as part of his position with Delta Airlines, where he would serve for more than 30 years.

David was blessed with a large and loving family. He married Shelia F. Broyles on April 6, 1990 in Atlanta, Ga. He became a loving father to his two stepchildr­en, Cheryl Hood and Patrick Julian, and a doting grandfathe­r to Tre Julian. He took great joy in his relationsh­ips with his two sisters, Janice Poirier, of Detroit, Mich., and Patricia Nieswand, of Bonita Springs, Fla., and his many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and all their children.

David was active in his ministry with Alcoholics Anonymous, celebratin­g nearly 32 years of sobriety, always helping others as a sponsor or mentor. He was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to help others. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator.

David is survived by his wife, Shelia; his stepson, Patrick Julian; his stepdaught­er, Cheryl Hood; his grandson, Tre Julian; and his sisters, Janice Poirier and Patricia Nieswand. He is preceded in death by his parents.

William David Reece, age 60, of Rome, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017.

David was born October 13, 1956 in Floyd County, a son of the late William Curtis Reece and Sarah Elizabeth Daugherty.

Survivors include his children, Josh Reece, Lacy Ferguson, and Casey Thornton; sister, Jane Chapman.

Larry Boggs passed away Sunday, June 25, at a local hospital surrounded by his family and friends.

Mr. Boggs was born May 2, 1941 in Lanett, Alabama, son of the late Ross Boggs and the late Vera C. Boggs. He was retired from Georgia Power Company, working at Plants Hammond and Bowen.

Mr. Boggs is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary F. Boggs; two sons, Terry J. Boggs and his wife Vicki, and David F. Boggs. He was a loving Papa to one grandson, Joe Duke, and three granddaugh­ters, Julianne Boggs and her fiancé, Andrew Sandor, of Jasper, Tennessee, Jenna Dollar and her husband, Josh, of Rome, and Jenni Duke, of Rome, Georgia; three great grandchild­ren, Duke Blackburn, Sara Duke, and Josi Blackburn, all of Rome. He was a loving brother to one sister, Joan Hunter, and her husband Lamar, of Lanett, and their two children, Laura Pearce and Garrett Hunter. He was a special cousin to Marie Ballew, of Carrollton, Georgia, and special friend to Rhonda Barner, of Rome, Georgia.

The family received friends at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. There will be no services in accordance with his wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor his memory by making a contributi­on to your favorite charity in his honor.

Cherry Kay McCain

Ms. Cherry Kay McCain, age 68, of Rome, Ga., passed away on Saturday morning, June 24, 2017, in a local hospital.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Cherry was born on March 16, 1949, a daughter of the late Fred Thomas McCain and Naomi Alberta Walker McCain. She was a 1967 graduate of Pepperell High School and a faithful member of the Hill Crest Baptist Church. For a number of years Cherry was involved with Shorter Avenue Baptist Church, serving as youth director, VBS director, and leading the youth choir among other activities. After moving her membership to Hill Crest, she was also very active in church functions, singing, playing piano and organ and just always helping others. Cherry retired in 2002 from Coosa Valley Contractor­s after serving as office manager for a number of years. She enjoyed reading, traveling and being with family. In addition to her parents, Cherry was preceded in death by a niece, Robin Turner.

Cherry is survived by three sisters and brothersin-law, Shirley and Sam Looney, of Rome, Nancy and Fred Rogers, of Cedartown, Ga., and Mona and Bill Pledger, of Rome; two brothers and a sister-inlaw, Bobby and Pat McCain, of Mims, Fla., and Phil McCain, of Fort Meade, Fla.; four nieces, Allison Upton, Melissa Sutton, Courtney Pledger and Noelle McCain; six nephews, Tony McCain, Bob McCain Jr., Bradley McCain, Greg McCain, Todd Pledger and Nick McCain. Several great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

A musical celebratio­n of life for Cherry will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Carl Sidwell Chapel of the Salmon Funeral Home with the Rev. Max Tucker officiatin­g. A private interment will be held following the service with the Rev. Stanley Smith officiatin­g.

Cherry’s family will receive friends at Salmon Funeral Home on Tuesday from noon until the Celebratio­n hour.

Nephews will serve as pallbearer­s and are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday by 1:30 p.m.

Mrs. Helen Stowe Tatum, age 94, of Rome, Ga., formerly of Cave Spring, Ga., passed away on Tuesday morning, June 27, 2017, in a local health care facility.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tatum will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Cave Spring. Interment will follow in the Cherokee Memorial Gardens in Centre, Ala.

Mrs. Tatum will lay instate at the church on Friday where the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.

Mrs. Eloise Lambert Childs, age 84, of Rome, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017, at a Cedartown assisted living facility.

Mrs. Childs was born in Cherokee County, Alabama on December 24, 1932, daughter of the late Fin Wade Lambert and the late Ethel Carroll Lambert. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Johny Edward Childs Jr., a daughter, Janice Elaine Childs Bridges, and a brother, Fin Wade Lambert Jr. Mrs. Childs was a graduate of McHenry High School and worked for a number of years as a Paraprofes­sional at Pepperell Primary School. She was a member of the East Rome Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 34 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Landers and her husband, Ken, Cave Spring; a son, Dale Childs and his wife, Lisa, Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchild­ren; four great grandchild­ren; two brothers, Jerry Lambert, Rockmart, and Jackie Lambert, Rome; nieces and nephews as well as countless adopted children and grandchild­ren.

Graveside services will be held today, Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel today from noon until 1:30 p.m.

Ms. Bertha Mae Ware, age 79, of 2506 Callier Springs Road, Rome, Ga., transition­ed June 21, 2017. Services for Mrs. Ware will be Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church, 75 Woodland St., Rome, Ga. Interment will follow at Chubb Town Cemetery. Mr. Mathew Daniels, age 73, of 508 Mockingbir­d Lane Loganville, Ga. On the beautiful morning of June 21, 2017, while vacationin­g in his hometown of Elgin, Ill. with his beloved family and friends, God opened His loving arms and received Matthew Daniels. He is survived by his wife and seven sons. He is also survived by one sister and three brothers of Springfiel­d, Ohio.

Visitation is Friday, June 30 from 6 p.m. until 7 pm at F.K. Jones Funeral Home in Rome, Ga.

Funeral service is Saturday, July 1 at noon at Metropolit­an United Methodist Church in Rome, Ga.
