Rome splits volleyball matches at Model
The Rome volleyball team had an up and down day in Shannon as the Lady Wolves lost to Fannin County 20-25,25-15, 21-25 and beat Model 25-7, 25-15 on Tuesday afternoon.
Emma Sheffield led the Lady Wolves with 15 aces and four kills, while Olivia Vardy contributed five aces. Junior libero Katie Beth Davis did work setting up teammates, recording eight assists.
The Lady Wolves (136) play again Thursday when they host Armuchee and Chattooga. Rome begins Area 7-5A play next Tuesday when it plays Hiram and Carrollton in Hiram.

Armuchee falls to Cartersville
The Armuchee volleyball team suffered a tough loss on Tuesday as Cartersville beat the Lady Indians 25-8, 25-13 in Armuchee. It was the Lady Indians’ second straight loss after going on a fourmatch winning streak.
Despite the low numbers, Brady Ann Wacker led Armuchee with two kills, two aces and five digs. The Lady Indians (8-7) play again Thursday when they travel to Rome to play the host Lady Wolves and Chattooga.
SOFTBALL: Pepperell 18, Model 0, 5 innings
The Pepperell softball team kept up its hot start with an 18-0 blowout Region 7-AA win at Model on Tuesday. The game was called after five innings.
Pepperell’s Anna Cowan allowed one hit and recorded three strikeouts in five innings pitched for the shutout win. The Lady Dragons (7-1, 4-1 7-AA) were powered by Dahlia Sanford, who recorded three hits and four RBIs. Baylee Wright tallied two hits and five RBIs, and Maycy Owens was tied for first with three hits.
Model’s McKinley Klink allowed one run in her first two innings pitched before Pepperell scored 16 runs in the final three innings.
Pepperell plays again Thursday when it hosts Rockmart while Model (1-5, 1-4) travels to Calhoun to play Gordon Central.
Rockmart 11, Gordon Central 3, 6 innings
The Rockmart softball team remained undefeated Tuesday when it took down Gordon Central 11-3 in a Region 7-AA battle in Rockmart.
The game was called after six innings.
Carlee Graham and Kinsey Jones led the Lady Jackets (12-0, 6-0 7-AA) with three hits each, and Jones added three RBIs. Graham also started on the mound, allowing three runs and five hits, and recording four strikeouts.
Rockmart travels to Lindale on Thursday to take on Pepperell in a battle of the top two Region 7-AA teams.
