Rome splits vol­ley­ball matches at Model

The Rome vol­ley­ball team had an up and down day in Shan­non as the Lady Wolves lost to Fan­nin County 20-25,25-15, 21-25 and beat Model 25-7, 25-15 on Tuesday af­ter­noon.

Emma Sh­effield led the Lady Wolves with 15 aces and four kills, while Olivia Vardy con­trib­uted five aces. Ju­nior libero Katie Beth Davis did work set­ting up team­mates, record­ing eight as­sists.

The Lady Wolves (136) play again Thursday when they host Ar­muchee and Chat­tooga. Rome be­gins Area 7-5A play next Tuesday when it plays Hiram and Car­roll­ton in Hiram.

Ar­muchee falls to Cartersville

The Ar­muchee vol­ley­ball team suf­fered a tough loss on Tuesday as Cartersville beat the Lady In­di­ans 25-8, 25-13 in Ar­muchee. It was the Lady In­di­ans’ sec­ond straight loss af­ter go­ing on a four­match win­ning streak.

De­spite the low num­bers, Brady Ann Wacker led Ar­muchee with two kills, two aces and five digs. The Lady In­di­ans (8-7) play again Thursday when they travel to Rome to play the host Lady Wolves and Chat­tooga.

SOFT­BALL: Pep­perell 18, Model 0, 5 in­nings

The Pep­perell soft­ball team kept up its hot start with an 18-0 blowout Re­gion 7-AA win at Model on Tuesday. The game was called af­ter five in­nings.

Pep­perell’s Anna Cowan al­lowed one hit and recorded three strike­outs in five in­nings pitched for the shutout win. The Lady Dragons (7-1, 4-1 7-AA) were pow­ered by Dahlia San­ford, who recorded three hits and four RBIs. Baylee Wright tal­lied two hits and five RBIs, and Maycy Owens was tied for first with three hits.

Model’s McKin­ley Klink al­lowed one run in her first two in­nings pitched be­fore Pep­perell scored 16 runs in the fi­nal three in­nings.

Pep­perell plays again Thursday when it hosts Rock­mart while Model (1-5, 1-4) trav­els to Cal­houn to play Gor­don Cen­tral.

Rock­mart 11, Gor­don Cen­tral 3, 6 in­nings

The Rock­mart soft­ball team re­mained un­de­feated Tuesday when it took down Gor­don Cen­tral 11-3 in a Re­gion 7-AA bat­tle in Rock­mart.

The game was called af­ter six in­nings.

Car­lee Gra­ham and Kin­sey Jones led the Lady Jack­ets (12-0, 6-0 7-AA) with three hits each, and Jones added three RBIs. Gra­ham also started on the mound, al­low­ing three runs and five hits, and record­ing four strike­outs.

Rock­mart trav­els to Lin­dale on Thursday to take on Pep­perell in a bat­tle of the top two Re­gion 7-AA teams.
