Catoosa adds something extra to Veterans Day Festival of Flags
RINGGOLD — Ringgold Councilmember Randall Franks has spearheaded an effort to make sure six Catoosa County men received an additional recognition that was long overdue.
On the lawn of the Catoosa County Courthouse stands its War Memorial erected in 1954 by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post to honor the people killed in action from WWI and WWII. The local post made additions to the monument again in 1974 with names of the KIAs from the Korean and Vietnam wars, he said.
“With the closure of the local post in the early 2000s, the care of the monument became the responsibility of Catoosa County,” Franks said.
Randall Smith, Will Chambers, Josh Morberg Joshua Adam Scott and Ed Koehler — who have all died in wars and actions since 2000 — will be added to the list.
The name of another veteran was added from the Vietnam War era — Thomas A. Duckett.
“The VFW had left a space for him 43 years ago after the Boynton fighter pilot was reported Missing in Action,” Franks said.

3 more students jailed over online posts
WOODSTOCK — Three Etowah High School students were arrested by school police Friday after posting on social media about an attack on the school Thursday that caused panic among parents and students.
The students face charges of disrupting public school and additional administrative disciplinary action, school district spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said.
The charges and rumors stirred by their posts, which school officials said did not appear credible, come shortly following the arrest of two students — Victoria McCurley and Alfred Dupree — who made threats against the school.
When students hear a rumor, Jacoby said, they should report it to law enforcement or school administration instead of posting it on social media, which can hinder investigation.
