The Amer­i­can Red Cross is­sued a press re­lease not­ing two vol­un­teers from North­west Ge­or­gia vol­un­teered to travel to South Ge­or­gia to help in any way they can. Wey­land Billingsley of Bar­tow and Julie Maloney of Chero­kee coun­ties have been sent to help the Red Cross dur­ing the af­ter­math of the storm.

“Julie has been de­ployed to Val­dosta and Wey­land is in Ma­con,” said Red Cross of North­west Ge­or­gia Dis­as­ter Pro­gram

Man­ager Carla Ma­ton. “Both will be work­ing in gov­ern­ment op­er­a­tions as li­aisons to lo­cal emer­gency man­age­ment’s emer­gency op­er­a­tions cen­ters.”

The As­so­ci­ated Press re­ported that Hur­ri­cane Michael is one of the strong­est storms to ever hit the United States. It is the first Cat­e­gory 4 hur­ri­cane to make land­fall in the Florida Pan­han­dle since record keep­ing be­gan in 1851. Michael was more in­tense at land­fall than hur­ri­canes An­drew, Ka­t­rina and Maria.
