The American Red Cross
The American Red Cross issued a press release noting two volunteers from Northwest Georgia volunteered to travel to South Georgia to help in any way they can. Weyland Billingsley of Bartow and Julie Maloney of Cherokee counties have been sent to help the Red Cross during the aftermath of the storm.
“Julie has been deployed to Valdosta and Weyland is in Macon,” said Red Cross of Northwest Georgia Disaster Program
Manager Carla Maton. “Both will be working in government operations as liaisons to local emergency management’s emergency operations centers.”
The Associated Press reported that Hurricane Michael is one of the strongest storms to ever hit the United States. It is the first Category 4 hurricane to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle since record keeping began in 1851. Michael was more intense at landfall than hurricanes Andrew, Katrina and Maria.
