8th, 9th, 11th, and 14th congressio­nal districts results

Preliminar­y election results are being reported in Michigan’s 8th, 9th, 11th, and 14th congressio­nal districts.

The 8th and 11th district races are two of the more high-profile election races of any statewide.

Both races feature two Democratic congresswo­men, U.S. Reps. Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly) and Haley Stevens (D-Rochester Hills), facing off against two Republican challenger­s, and political newcomers, in Paul Junge and Eric Esshaki, both of which have never ran for elected office prior to this year.

In 2018, Slotkin and Stevens defeated incumbent Republican­s Mike Bishop (8th district) and David Trott (11th district), both traditiona­lly conservati­ve districts, to win their first terms in Congress.

As of 10:30 p.m., here are the preliminar­y election results for all four of Oakland County’s congressio­nal districts:

Michigan’s 8th Congressio­nal District includes portions of Livingston and Ingham counties and sections of Oakland County. Cities include: Lansing, East Lansing, Rochester, Clarkston, Lake Orion, Oxford, Brighton, Howell, Mason Okemos, and Haslett among others.

With 56/305 precincts reporting full results, here are vote totals:

• Republican Paul Junge: (73,655 votes, 55 %)

• Democrat Elissa Slotkin (I): (56,879 votes, 43 %)

Rep. Slotkin ( D-Holly) is seeking her second term in Congress, having been first elected in 2018. She’s a former CIA analyst (20032009) and U.S. Department of Defense official (20092017), who currently serves on the House Committee on Armed Services and House Committee on Homeland Security.

Junge is a former television news anchor with Fox47 in Lansing and deputy district attorney who worked in the domestic violence unit. He also served as a senior adviser within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security at U. S. Citizenshi­p and Immigratio­n Services.

9TH DISTRICT

Michigan’s 9th Congressio­nal District includes portions of Oakland and Macomb counties. The district includes the communitie­s of Ferndale, Madison Heights, Beverly Hills, Franklin, Royal Oak, Hazel Park, St. Clair Shores, Warren, Bloomfield Township, and Clinton Township, and Sterling Heights.

With 45/289 precincts reporting full results, here are the totals:

• Republican Charles Langworthy: (86,581 votes, 45 %)

• Democrat Andy Levin (I): (96,076 votes, 50 %)

11TH DISTRICT

Michigan’s 11th congressio­nal district includes parts of Wayne and Oakland counties. Cities include: Auburn Hills, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Clawson, Commerce Township, Farmington, Highland Township, Lake Angelus, Lyon Township, Milford Township, Northville/ Northville Township, Novi/ Novi Township, Rochester Hills, South Lyon, Troy, Walled Lake, Waterford, West Bloomfield, White Lake Township, and Wixom.

With 57/295 precincts reporting full results, here are vote totals:

• Republican Eric Esshaki: (88,603 votes, 58 %)

• Democrat Haley Stevens (I): (55,991 votes, 39%)

Rep. Stevens ( D-Rochester Hills) is seeking her second term in Congress, having been first elected in 2018. She currently serves on the House Committee on Education and Labor and the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. Before serving in Congress, Stevens served as director of workforce developmen­t and manufactur­ing engagement for the Digital Manufactur­ing and Design Innovation Institute. Prior to that, she served as chief of staff to the U. S. Auto Rescue Task Force in the Obama Administra­tion.

Esshaki, a Birmingham resident and first generation American, served nearly 10 years as a home care, emergency room, and management level nurse. He currently works as an attorney at Royal Oak-based Howard and Howard.

14TH DISTRICT

Michigan’s 14th Congressio­nal District includes portions of Oakland and Wayne counties. The district includes the communitie­s of Detroit, West Bloomfield, Southfield, Oak Park,

Farmington Hills, Pontiac, Harper Woods, Hamtramck, Sylvan Lake, Orchard Lake, Keego Harbor,

Lathrup Village, and the Grosse Pointes.

With 19/390 precincts reporting full results, here are the totals:

• Republican Rob-ert TVance Patrick: (19,435 votes, 22 %)

• Democrat Brenda Lawrence (I): (65,211 votes, 75 %)
