Eggleton receives AARP’s most prestigious award
Cindy Eggleton of Pleasant Ridge recently received AARP’s most prestigious honor – the AARP Purpose Prize.
Each year, AARP, the nation’s largest nonprofit dedicated to empowering Americans age 50 and older, recognizes five individuals who have used their life experiences to solve tough social problems and build a better future.
Eggleton was selected for co-founding Brilliant Detroit, an organization which creates early child/ family centers in neighborhoods and provides holistic services for infants through 8-year- olds around health, family support and education. As part of this honor, Eggleton will receive a $50,000 award for Brilliant Detroit.
Last week, Eggleton was honored during a virtual award ceremony hosted by Lisa Ling, journalist and host of “This Is Life with Lisa Ling” on CNN, and featuring AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins and Purpose Prize jury chair Sherry Lansing. Golden Globe Award winning actress Glenn Close was also honored at the event with an honorary Purpose Prize Award for her work with Bring Change to Mind, a charity dedicated to confronting the stigma associated with mental illness.
