Police: Intoxicated woman steals cash from business, walks back home
Madison Heights police arrested a woman at home Wednesday after they say she stole an undetermined amount of cash from a register at a business and walked back to her house down the street.
The theft happened at Wet Willy’s Auto Bath, 26655 Dequindre, about 3:30 p.m.
The business is a car wash and auto detailing business just south of 11 Mile Road.
Police said the owner was in the back and the counter area was unattended when the woman, 30, walked in and stole the money.
“The owner was washing cars and saw her in the building,” said Madison Heights police Lt. Michael Siladke. “She took all the tens and twenties from the cash register.”
Police said the owner ran and confronted the woman outside near East Griegs Street.
The owner told police he saw money hanging out of her pocket.
“When he approached her she pushed him away,” Siladke said. “He then saw her walk to a house on East Grieg and go inside.”
The woman lives at the house with her father, he added.
After the owner called police several police vehicles and officers arrived at the house after the owner pointed it out to them.
The suspect did not have all the money stolen with her when police showed up to arrest her, Siladke said.
Though police said the woman was intoxicated there were no signs she had been drinking alcohol.
Police tried to interview the woman on Thursday.
“She was under the influence of something and said she doesn’t remember anything,” of the theft incident, Silake said.
Police submitted their investigation to prosecutors and are waiting for them to issue a warrant charging the woman in the theft.
She is expected to be arraigned Friday in Madison Heights 43rd District Court.
