Spool a 50-pound outfit with 80-pound braided line. Attach a 250-pound windon swivel and tie a 70-foot leader of 130-pound-test monofilament. About a foot from the windon swivel, crimp two 3-inch sections of 130-pound mono, 8 inches apart. Attach snap swivels on both planer tethers (crimped to the planer) to the loops on the leader. During the fight, unclip the planer when it reaches the rod tip so the angler can continue to reel the leader through the rod guides.
