UTSA update: Roadrunners coach Frank Wilson said he is optimistic junior cornerback Clayton Johnson and junior safety Andrew Martel will be able to play. Both missed last week’s game because of injury. … UTSA has won three straight games after an 0-3 start. The Roadrunners’ defense is holding opponents to 75.7 rushing yards per game during the win streak. … The Roadrunners have forced 15 turnovers this year, ranking second in Conference USA and 15th nationally. … UTSA’s defense averages 7.8 tackles for loss per game, leading the conference and ranking 18th nationally.
Louisiana Tech update: The Bulldogs have won four straight against the Roadrunners and hold a 5-1 edge in the all-time series, including a 20-6 win in last year’s regular season finale. … Louisiana Tech has converted on all 18 of its opportunities in the red zone, coming away with 12 touchdowns and six field goals. UTSA is also among the group of nine teams with a 100 percent conversion rate in the red zone. The Roadrunners have 11 touchdowns and three field goals in 14 trips. … Louisiana Tech enters off a 28-7 loss to UAB on Oct. 6. The Bulldogs had won four straight conference games dating back to last season, including knocking off North Texas — the media’s preseason pick to win the West — 29-27 on Sept. 29.
