Our sweet angel mother, Angela Martinez is finally at rest. Born in Caibarien, Cuba. Angela was one of seven children born to Cayetano and Delfina Bouza. A model for Ivory Soap in her early twenties, she caught the eye of the handsome caballero, Jose Martinez. They were later married in 1956. As Castro took control over Cuba, it was Angela who knew that emigrating to America was the most logical scenario for the family. In South San Francisco, Jose and Angela made their home with their three young children. Angela worked for the See’s Candies factory for 25 years until she retired in 1999. The family joke was that her and her best friend, Carmen Olazar were the new Lucy and Ethel on the belt line. An exceptional seamstress, Angela created some of the most beautiful clothes for her daughter and granddaughters. We could always count on mom’s classic Crab Ciopinno at Christmas. Her arroz con frijoles negro and costillitas de puerco were also a family favorite. With her enthusiasm for holiday get togethers and being the family photographer, she made every event so special for all of us. Angela is pre-deceased by her loving husband of 38 years, Jose Manuel Martinez. She is survived by her three children, Maria Barulich (Johnnie), Jose Martinez (Verna), Anthony Martinez (Miriam), her seven grandchildren: Todd, his fiancé, Jaclyn, Christopher and Natalia Barulich, Jarrod and Raquel Martinez, and William (Salina) and Clifford Martinez along with four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister in law, Maria Luisa Torres (Constantino) and many loving nieces and nephews in the U.S and in Cuba. Angela lived a long rich life with a myriad of friends and family. Angela’s greatest trait was that she always saw the good in people and showed that every day of her life with her unconditional love. We are forever grateful for the exceptional care and love that mom received from Joy and August at Mary and Joseph’s Care Home in Fremont. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
