CLAUDIA BAUER’S DANCE PICK

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of his Fact/SF company, Artistic Director Charles Slender-White made a dance about mortality. Slender-White never pulls artistic punches, so he dispensed with modifiers and named the piece “Death.” The final chapter in a two-year creation process, “Death” tolls the end of a series that also includes “Remains,” “Life” and “Memoria.”

Focused on mourning rather than on dying, the immersive performance will lead up to 40 viewers per show between the earthly and subterranean realms at CounterPulse. (The building is fully accessible.) Lighting by Del Medoff and Darl Andrew Packard conjures an entrancing atmosphere around Slender-White’s fascinatingly complex movement, embodied with beyond-human focus by a cast that includes Michaela Burns, Kegan Marling, Catherine Newman, Amanda Whitehead and Slender-White himself.
