A front-page photo shows Pope Francis with his pastoral staff arriving to celebrate Mass on Sunday at Revolution Plaza in Havana, where a sculpture of Argentine revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara and a Cuban flag decorate a nearby government building. Francis opened his first full day in Cuba with what normally would be the culminating highlight of a papal visit: a Mass before hundreds of thousands of people.

Alzheimer’s epidemic

Alzheimer’s disease affects more than 500,000 Argentines, according to the World Health Organization. Latin America is expected to see an increase between 134 percent and 146 percent in dementia cases over the next two decades, according to WHO. The disease has become an increasingly serious concern among Argentine doctors, who say the stigma and lack of public awareness about the symptoms and the effects of the disease is a major obstacle to improving treatment.
