No complacency from media

San Francisco Chronicle Late Edition - - FROM THE COVER -

It’s clear from the president-elect’s so-called news conference that he continues to play the press for suckers. He’s mastered a form of verbal “jujitsu” comprised of bullying, antifact declarations and redirection of attention away from himself (and the real news) to others. But every time this happens, the press seems completely surprised and flummoxed. Well, they better get a handle on it and become a lot smarter about responding to his tactics, and fast. And they must band together and defend their fellow news organizations, en masse, whenever he attacks any one of them. Because the price of dumbfounded complacency will likely be too high for all of us. Stan Barnett, San Francisco
