The Earthquakes are making an effort to help families affected by the flooding in San Jose.

The team has set up a link on its home page (www.sjearthquakes.com) that hopes to help some of the 14,000 families ordered to evacuate from their homes as a safety precaution. Media-relations manager Jake Pisani said the team pledged to match the first $10,000 donated toward relief efforts.

“The Earthquakes community fund is overseeing it and we’re working with the Oakland A’s as well,” Pisani said.

The A’s are going to add an additional $10,000 once San Jose reaches its goal.

In addition, the Quakes will provide complimentary tickets and transportation to and from shelters Saturday morning to the team’s preseason match against Sacramento Republic FC at Avaya Stadium.

According to San Jose officials, this week’s floods are the worst to hit the city in 100 years.

“We’ll continue to raise funds in addition to that and we’ll have reps at San Pedro Market all next week collecting donations,” Pisani said.
