Need the details of legislation

-

Regarding “On having coverage for everyone” (Open Forum, June 19): RoseAnn DeMoro, executive director of the California Nurses Association, supposedly represents the best interests of California nurses. In her piece, she strongly advocates for a single-payer health care system in California. SB562, which has passed the state Senate, is in its infancy and legislative aids admit that none of the details, including funding, have been worked out.

It is not clear how this will affect nurses, their autonomy, benefits, pay, pensions earned while working for organizations and businesses that may cease to exist, where they might have to go to maintain employment and who is going to pay them. What will happen to negotiated labor agreements? Nobody knows yet. We can only hope that the state does a more efficient job with health care than it did with fixing the Bay Bridge or building a bullet train. But don’t hold your breath. Michael Bartos, Napa
