-

Brian P. Delaney, age 56, passed away at his home in San Francisco, California surrounded by family on Thursday, June 8th, 2017. Brian was a professional digital artist and a talented musician who left behind a legacy of self-recorded music and a following of friends and fans who enjoyed his creative pursuits from one coast of the country to the other.

Brian was born in Morristown Memorial Hospital on October 20, 1960 to Robert and Ann Delaney and was the fourth of seven children. His love of music was largely sparked by the arrival of the Beatles to America and their televised performances on The Ed Sullivan Show and other programs. He started playing the guitar at age 12 and was soon after playing in a small ensemble at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Brian’s other interests included the fine arts, a topic in which he majored in at New Jersey’s Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in 1981. Brian’s first job after college was as a bassist and vocalist for a classic rock band “Bear’s Choice,” formed with high school classmates and other musicians from the Morris County area. He later joined “Living Earth,” a popular Philadelphia-based jam band known for its Grateful Dead-inspired improvisations and original songs, some of which Brian wrote. He also spent some time playing bass in a folk rock band named “Neo Pseudo.”

Brian’s love of the California’s Bay Area prompted him to move to San Francisco in the late 1990s, a relocation that soon after resulted in a job with Apple Inc. Brian played supporting roles in the unveiling of some of Apple’s most iconic, world-changing products, specifically the iPod, the iPhone, and the iPad. During this same period, he continued writing and producing his own music, eventually releasing five albums worth of material and playing nearly a dozen instruments on the recordings.

He is survived by his mother Ann, brothers Brenden, Neil, Bobby, John, and Matt, and sister Barbara. A memorial service will be held on a boat on Saturday, June 24th at 10:30 a.m. on San Francisco Bay, after which Brian’s remains will be committed to the deep. The Delaney family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Pathway Home Health and Hospice, and Roxana Family Home Care. Memorial donations can be sent to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation (http://www.npcf.us/ donate/).
