Stamkos, Light­ning stop Pens

Steven Stamkos scored his first goal since hav­ing rightknee surgery in Novem­ber and Tampa Bay beat the vis­it­ing Pen­guins 5-4 on Thurs­day night.

Stamkos made it 3-1 with a power-play goal at 3:49 of the sec­ond pe­riod from the low left cir­cle. The Light­ning cen­ter pre­vi­ously scored Nov. 15 at Detroit in the game in which he in­curred a sea­son-end­ing lat­eral-menis­cus tear in the knee.

“I knew it was a mat­ter of time, so I wasn’t los­ing any sleep over it,” Stamkos said. “I’m just happy to be play­ing hockey again. Glad to be a part of some wins here.”

Stamkos en­tered Thurs­day with five as­sists in three games this sea­son.

Also for Tampa Bay, Slater Koekkoek picked up his first two NHL goals.
