Equal access to quality education needed

-

From a satellite image of the Bay Area, one views a beautiful and diverse region, but as we zoom in, we see city and county lines that create arbitrary disparity and hardships depending on which side of the line one lives. The Bay Area prides itself on innovative thought and action, yet we fail to see or act on the inherent unjustness in our local birth lottery.

We as citizens have it within our power to ensure that whether a child is born in East Oakland or Nob Hill, she has equal access to a quality education. The longer we fail to do this, the more our beloved region moves toward mirroring global stratification and marginalization that leads to increased unrest and collapse. Solutions are there, but we must break free of intellectual laziness and understand that there is nothing natural in our invented systems that re-create the cycle of haves and have-nots, generation after generation.
