Ken­tucky re­bounds from loss to Duke

Kel­don John­son and Im­manuel Quick­ley each scored 15 points, Nick Richards grabbed 19 re­bounds and No. 2 Ken­tucky ral­lied in the sec­ond half to beat vis­it­ing South­ern Illi­nois 71-59 on Fri­day night.

The Wild­cats (1-1) bounced back from Tues­day night’s 118-84 shel­lack­ing by No. 4 Duke, but had to work hard in the sec­ond half to over­come the Salukis (0-1).

Richards’ re­bound­ing pro­vided the big­gest lift as Ken­tucky dom­i­nated South­ern Illi­nois 48-19 on the glass. He had as many boards as the Salukis’ com­bined to­tal, sur­pass­ing his pre­vi­ous best of 15 last sea­son against Fort Wayne. Notre Dame rolls in sea­son opener

Arike Ogun­bowale scored 30 points as top-ranked Notre Dame opened its na­tional-ti­tle de­fense with a 103-58 vic­tory over Har­vard in the sea­son opener for both teams.

Ogun­bowale, who hit two buzzer-beat­ers in the women’s Fi­nal Four last spring, made 10 of 21 field-goal at­tempts and all nine free-throw tries s in 25 min­utes.
