Giving the gift of music to mark mission’s 100th

San Francisco Chronicle Late Edition - - ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT - — Joshua Kosman

For 100 years, since the completion of the adjacent church, Mission Dolores has had a comfortably intimate space for musical performance. What it doesn’t have is a piano suitable for that purpose.

Fortunately, the Mission has friends willing to chip in. As part of the church’s centennial celebration, the estimable pianist Cecile Licad, known for her sensitive interpretations of a wide range of repertoire, plans to perform a benefit recital devoted to the keyboard music of Chopin.

Proceeds are earmarked for the purchase of a Steinway piano — which, in theory, should mean more such events in the future. Cecile Licad: 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. $20-$100. Mission Dolores Basilica, 3321 16th St., S.F. 415-3924400.boxof
