January 10, 1921 - October 27, 2018
Harry Kott passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, October 27, 2018 at the age of 97. On January 10, 1921 Harry was born in his family home, in the small mining town of Nemacolin in Southwestern Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of 5 children; Paul, Alex, Anna, and Sophia, his siblings who precede him in death.
His parents Naum and Olga raised him to be an outstanding young man. Growing up and leaving Nemacolin to join the Army Air Force, he bravely served his country in WW II primarily as an aerial photographer.
Once out of the service, he moved to Santa Barbara and enrolled in Brooks Institute of Photography. Upon graduation he moved north to San Francisco where he worked at Fort Mason. He soon met the love of his life, Geraldine. He then secured a job in the printing plant of the Oakland Army Base as a photolithographer.
Gerry and Harry were married in 1950, at old St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco. After 3 years, moving south to Burlingame, they bought a home to raise 3 children. He was a devoted husband and father who truly loved his home, especially when tinkering, or working to make it a better place for his family. He would do anything for family or friends, and touched the hearts of all he met.
After retirement in 1987, he enjoyed socializing with family and many new friends as a member of the Burlingame Senior Citizens Organization and the Siena Club.
He is survived by his wife Geraldine; children Karen, Mary Beth and Mark, as well as a niece and several nephews.
A private family service will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1310 Bayswater Ave., Burlingame, CA 94010.
