San Francisco Chronicle (Sunday) - - LIFE TRIBUTES -

Hal Steger, 61, passed away peacefully at home in Half Moon Bay October 18, 2018. He was the third child of Wilbur and Shelia Steger, both deceased. He married the love of his life Joanne Brown in 1986. In addition to Joanne he is survived by his daughters Jenny Steger and Laura Steger, brothers Edward ( Cathy ) and Jeffry ( Janice ), sister Fran ( Barry ), aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, Brown family members and loving friends throughout the world.

Hal graduated from Alderdice High School, Pittsburgh, University of Michigan, and Carnegie Mellon, Pittsburgh. He made a name for himself and a career in Sillicon Valley where he worked tirelessly at more than a dozen start ups. He was a wonderful collaborator, mentor and leader. He encouraged those around him to follow their dreams and tried to make the world a better place. Second only to wanting his daughters to thrive in all ways was his wish to see all of his beloved Pittsburgh sports teams win every game every year.

An endowment scholarship for computer science in the College of Engineering at University of Michigan has been established. Memorial gifts can be made by contacting leadersandbest. umich.edu.
