Anigwe, Davidson team for 44 points, lead Bears
Kristine Anigwe totaled 26 points and 10 rebounds and Penina Davidson added 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting with nine boards to help the No. 24 Cal women hold off Washington 69-60 on Friday night in Berkeley.
Anigwe and Davidson combined to make 20 of 28 shots from the floor (71.4 percent), but the rest of the Bears shot just 23.5 percent (8-for-34). Asha Thomas added 14 points and eight assists and Mikayla Cowling scored two points on 1-of-7 shooting but added 11 assists, six rebounds and three steals.
The Huskies trailed by two at halftime, but took a 32-31 lead at the start of the third on a Hannah Johnson three-pointer. Jenna Moser’s three stretched Washington’s lead to 37-33, but Davidson scored five in an 11-0 run to give Cal a 44-37 lead midway through the period.
Cal had a 40-14 advantage in points in the paint.
