Looney impresses in homecoming

San Francisco Chronicle - - FRIDAY NIGHT’S WARRIORS GAME - By Connor Letourneau

MILWAUKEE — Kevon Looney has played for Steve Kerr long enough to know that the Warriors’ head coach likes to give even seldom-used reserves some minutes in their hometowns.

With that in mind, Looney was extra excited ahead of Friday night’s 108-94 win over the Bucks. The Milwaukee native responded with nine points, eight rebounds, three assists and a block in 23 minutes. Playing in front of family and friends, he corralled six offensive boards and switched off screens to defend guards with relative ease.

“I thought he was tremendous,” Kerr said. “We wanted to get him in the game, given that he’s from the area. It turned out that he was a great fit for this game, with all the switching and protecting the rim at the same time. I thought Looney put in some fantastic minutes.”

Kerr has long lauded Looney for his professionalism. After consistently playing meaningful minutes in December, Looney was forced to watch from the bench as rookie Jordan Bell jumped him on the depth chart. It didn’t keep Looney from staying late after practice to play 3-on-3 or from reviewing scouting reports pregame with playerdevelopment coach

Chris DeMarco.

In three of Golden State’s past five games, Looney has logged at least 15 minutes. His 23 minutes Friday were a career high.

“I kind of had a feeling I would play,” Looney said. “Last year, (Kerr) gave me a chance to play (in Milwaukee). So, I kind of had a feeling that, if he called my name, I’d be ready.” Unruly fan: Late in Golden State’s win over the Bucks, a fan in a front-row baseline seat was escorted from the game for shouting obscenities at Warriors guard Klay Thompson.

Midway through the fourth quarter, when Thompson fell to the floor after getting fouled, a fan leaned over and unleashed a verbal tirade on him. David West and Shaun Livingston ran over to defend Thompson. Within seconds, ushers approached the fan, who left his seat without further incident. Cook, Jones recalled: Point guard Quinn Cook and center Damian Jones were recalled Friday from from the G League. Cook was active, but did not play, and Jones was on the inactive list.

Streak snapped:

Thompson was 0-of-2 from beyond the arc, snapping a 95-game streak in which he had connected on at least one three-pointer, which was the third-longest such streak in NBA history.
