14 rescued in hostage situation at pistachio farm

The New Mexico State Police rescued 13 hostages and one 3-year-old child following a hostage situation at McGinn’s Pistachio farm near Alamogordo in Otero County, according to a news release.

The suspect was taken into custody, and is being treated for injuries received in a crash prior to entering the building.

State police sent “every available resource to the location, including Tactical Units and the Crisis Negation team,” according to a news release issued shortly after noon Sunday.

Police said at that time they were negotiating with a suspect believed to be armed inside one of the buildings.

This situation will be investigated by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau.
