Ground the Flying J

Santa Fe New Mexican - - OPINIONS -

The developers for the proposed Pilot Flying J truck stop on N.M. 14 at Rancho Viejo Boulevard have announced another required community meeting after being rejected the second time by Santa Fe County. The officials want to see what the whole 26-acre parcel will look like fully developed. The truck stop wants only 10 acres at this point (“Rancho Viejo residents oppose truck stop plans,” May 10).

Why Santa Fe County just doesn’t just outright reject this outrageous proposal is beyond me. The developers need variances to county ordinances, and the proposal flies in the face of the 2015 Sustainable Growth Management Plan, which was put in place to protect and preserve our environment while preserving Santa Fe County’s unique character. Come voice your opinion at 6 p.m. Sept. 25 at Santa Fe Community College. William Hill III Santa Fe
