Lost moral compass

Santa Fe New Mexican - - OPINIONS -

The city has lost its moral compass, extending the Santa Fe city bank contract with shameful corporate Wells Fargo Bank (“Mayor, council reluctantly keep Wells Fargo as city’s bank,” Aug. 31). The City Council’s 6-3 vote rubberstamped this fiasco with the city Finance Committee’s recommendation as, in Councilor Peter Ives’ words, “the logical choice,” despite Wells Fargo fraud and Dakota Access Pipeline loans in the face of Santa Feans, New Mexicans and millions of folks across the country closing their Wells Fargo accounts and transferring their money elsewhere to take a stand against the greed, fraud and disenfranchisement by capitalism at its worst. Right here in Santa Fe is another attempt to “drain the swamp,” only to reveal all the fossilized reptiles lying on the sandy desert floor. Pamela Canyonrivers
