Seeing the light
I had been under the impression that plutonium was never present in the universe until it was created during the Manhattan Project. But the article (“Explosion rocks universe,” Nov. 13) suggests that plutonium and gold were created during the merging of two neutron stars. Have I been mistaken all these years? Thanks for the story about the contribution Los Alamos National Laboratory made to this research. We are lucky to have the lab in our neighborhood.
