Fuego’s Stubblefield hits two homers
Santa Fe’s offense came alive in an 18-6 rout of visiting Ruidoso on Thursday night at Fort Marcy Ballpark.
The Fuego (24-25) had 27 hits against three Osos pitchers, including a 3-for-6 night from second baseman Aaron Stubblefield. He hit two home runs and drove in six in marking his return to the Santa Fe lineup after spending most of the season playing with Salina of the independent American Association.
He now has 15 home runs, putting him fifth in the Pecos League despite playing in just 19 games. He is averaging one long ball for every 4.9 at bats in a Fuego uniform and is batting .514.
Mike Annone, Ryan Arena and Hudson Bilodeau all had four hits apiece, combining for eight runs scored and half a dozen driven in.
Santa Fe never trailed, scoring in every inning. The Fuego led 6-0 after four innings and scored seven combined runs in the final two frames to make an easy winner out of starting pitcher Logan Linder (3-2). He worked five-plus innings and struck out six.
The teams resume their weekend series at 6 p.m. Friday at Fort Marcy.
