Fuego’s Stub­ble­field hits two homers

Santa Fe’s of­fense came alive in an 18-6 rout of vis­it­ing Rui­doso on Thurs­day night at Fort Marcy Ball­park.

The Fuego (24-25) had 27 hits against three Osos pitch­ers, in­clud­ing a 3-for-6 night from sec­ond base­man Aaron Stub­ble­field. He hit two home runs and drove in six in mark­ing his re­turn to the Santa Fe lineup af­ter spend­ing most of the sea­son play­ing with Salina of the in­de­pen­dent Amer­i­can As­so­ci­a­tion.

He now has 15 home runs, putting him fifth in the Pe­cos League de­spite play­ing in just 19 games. He is av­er­ag­ing one long ball for ev­ery 4.9 at bats in a Fuego uni­form and is bat­ting .514.

Mike An­none, Ryan Arena and Hud­son Bilodeau all had four hits apiece, com­bin­ing for eight runs scored and half a dozen driven in.

Santa Fe never trailed, scor­ing in ev­ery in­ning. The Fuego led 6-0 af­ter four in­nings and scored seven com­bined runs in the fi­nal two frames to make an easy win­ner out of start­ing pitcher Lo­gan Lin­der (3-2). He worked five-plus in­nings and struck out six.

The teams re­sume their week­end se­ries at 6 p.m. Fri­day at Fort Marcy.
