MYSTERY IN THE DEEP

Scuba Diving - - Encounters - TEXT AND PHOTO BY BRANDON COLE GO NOW ISLAND SCUBA (ISLANDSCUBA.NET)

I’m miles off Colombo, Sri Lanka, 148 feet down, gazing up at the stern of a small wooden ship. It’s nicknamed the Battery Barge, but its true identity and history are unknown. Fine by me; I love a little mystery. According to the tec diver who first explored the vessel after a fisherman tipped him off, I’m one of only 10 people to have dived here. Let others tour the popular Pecheur Breton or Medhufaru. I’m happier immersed in obscurity.
