Maple­ton Se­nior Cit­i­zens Learn about WW II

The Maple­ton Se­nior Cit i zens held their monthly meet­ing Thurs­day, March 13th a t the Maple­ton City Cen­ter. They served a del icious meal. Chair­man Mary Denna then int ro­duced WW I I Vet­eran Keith Davis, who told some of his ex­per iences dur ing the war. Keith told about his 16th Field Ar tillery Ob­ser­va­tion Bat­tal­ion go­ing ashore on Utah Beach in Nor­mandy. The beach aaas se­cure and the f ight­ing was a few miles in­land. He was in the area of St. Mere Eglis and told about f ight ing in the hedge rows and then f ight­ing at the Nazi Sub­mar ine base at Brest , France. He con­tin­ued to share how they fought the ir way to ST. Lo and then to Par is and then about the “Bat­tle of the Bulge” in Bel­gium.

He told about the f rozen bod­ies, the Buzz Bombs, Ger­man Fire power in Bas­togne. Fight ing over the Sch­neifel moun­tains to Koblenz on the Rhine River. He shared about be­ing at the Lib­er­a­tion of the f irst con­cen­tra­tion camp lib­er­ated on the Wester n Front, “Ohrdr uf Con­cent ra­tion Camp”.

He shared about meet­ing the Rus­sian Army in Cze­choslavakia and about VE Day when the Nazis sur­ren­dered on May 8, 1945.
