For just a few months shy of 48 years, Sonny (Raymond) Braun has been the only pro at Springville’s Hobble Creek Golf Course. Sonny Braun is now retiring. The Springville City mayor and city council hired Braun as the Hobble Creek Golf Course neared its construction completion in 1967. Sonny was 32 years old at that time.
Prior to taking the position in Springville City, he was the assistant pro at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club at Pebble Beach. He has been the first and only pro at Hobble Creek until now. This course has continually been rated as a 4.5-star course in Golf Digest and has received more accolades in other golf and sports-associated media vehicles. Braun has always been a forward thinker and under his direction Hobble Creek has been one of the nicest courses in the state and is a great asset to Springville City.
Braun has won numerous tournaments and received several awards. He has always enjoyed repairing golf clubs and has become an expert craftsman at doing it. He is married to Laurel Turner Braun and they are the parents of three sons. Following his retirement, Sonny wants to “work on improving his golf game.”
There will be a retirement celebration in his honor on Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Springville Library (the golf course club house is too snowy to host), 45 S. Main, from noon until 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
