Clyde and Wing re­ceive Pil­lar of the Val­ley awards


Springville Mayor Wil­ford Clyde and the fam­ily of for­mer Springville Mayor Hal Wing were pre­sented with the “Pil­lar of the Val­ley” award on Fri­day, March 27, at the Utah Val­ley Con­ven­tion Cen­ter in Provo. The for­mal event is spon­sored by the Utah Val­ley Cham­ber of Com­merce in recog­ni­tion of those who have made ex­tra­or­di­nary con­tri­bu­tions to the busi­ness, civic, so­cial, ed­u­ca­tional and cul­tural com­mu­ni­ties of Utah Val­ley.

Clyde is serv­ing his sec­ond term as the mayor of Springville and served as a city coun­cil mem­ber from 1989 to 1992. He is cur­rently the pres­i­dent and CEO of Clyde Com­pa­nies. Clyde Com­pa­nies in­clude W.W. Clyde, Geneva Rock, Sun­roc, Gorge Rock Con­struc­tion Com­pa­nies and Bee­hive In­sur­ance. Clyde has been a public ser­vant in many ways. He is cur­rently serv­ing on the Utah State Board of Re­gents and is a board mem­ber of the Utah Em­ploy­ers Coun­cil, Salt Lake Cham­ber of Com­merce and En­vi­sion Utah. Past as­sign­ments have in­cluded chair­man of the Board of Trustees for Utah Val­ley Uni­ver­sity, membership on the Brigham Young Uni­ver­sity’s Con­struc­tion Man­age­ment Ad­vi­sory Com­mit­tee, and chair­man of the Utah Man­u­fac­tur­ers As­so­ci­a­tion among sev­eral other po­si­tions

He and his wife Natalie have al­ways been huge sup­port­ers of the com­mu­nity by at­tend­ing games at Springville High School, Springville Mu­seum of Art func­tions, Red Devil Booster Club events, lit­tle league and Filly league games and much more. They have four daugh­ters and 11 grand­chil­dren.

For­mer Mayor Hal Wing served as mayor of Springville from 1997 to 2001. He passed away in Au­gust of 2012. He was the founder of Wing En­ter­prises, which in­cludes Lit­tle Gi­ant Lad­der Sys­tems. The first year of start­ing his com­pany, he sold over $500,000 of this amaz­ing lad­der. Now Lit­tle Gi­ant is prac­ti­cally a house­hold name around the coun­try. Lit­tle Gi­ant Lad­der Sys­tems con­tin­ues to be lo­cated in Springville’s Industrial Park. Wing re­ceived awards from Ernest & Young as the En­tre­pre­neur of the Year and was rec­og­nized in Who’s Who in Fi­nance and In­dus­try. He and his wife, Brigette, were sup­port­ers of many groups and or­ga­ni­za­tions in the com­mu­nity. He loved cars and had an ex­quis­ite au­to­mo­bile col­lec­tion. He and his wife Brigette have four chil­dren.
