Com­puter cod­ing camps planned for Nebo stu­dents

Nebo School Dis­trict stu­dents in fourth through ninth grades are in­vited to be part of a se­ries of On­line Cod­ing Camps to be held from mid-Jan­uary to mid-March. These af­ter-school com­puter cod­ing classes will be held at var­i­ous lo­ca­tions through­out the dis­trict.

Stu­dents will learn the ba­sics of com­puter sci­ence us­ing the lan­guage SCRATCH 2.0. A four-week in­tro­duc­tion course will be held Jan. 18 through Feb. 12 and a 10-week in­ter­me­di­ate/ad­vanced course will be held Jan. 18 through March 25.

Cost for the in­tro­duc­tion classes is $19 and cost for the in­ter­me­di­ate/ad­vanced classes is $39. A com­pe­ti­tion team will be formed in the spring to com­pete at Utah Val­ley Uni­ver­sity on In­ter­na­tional Scratch Day - May 14, 2016.

Classes will be taught at the fol­low­ing Nebo dis­trict schools (dates and times vary from school to school):

In­tro­duc­tion course (grades 4-6): Hob­ble Creek El­e­men­tary School, Art City El­e­men­tary School, Sierra Bonita El­e­men­tary School, Span­ish Oaks El­e­men­tary School and Brock­bank El­e­men­tary School. In­tro­duc­tion course (grades 4-9): Wil­son El­e­men­tary School. In­tro­duc­tion course (grades 7-9): Di­a­mond Fork Ju­nior High School and Maple­ton Ju­nior High School.

In­ter­me­di­ate/ad­vanced level course (grades 4-6): Hob­ble Creek El­e­men­tary School, Span­ish Oaks El­e­men­tary School and Brock­bank El­e­men­tary School. In­ter­me­di­ate/ad­vanced level course (grades 4-9): Wil­son El­e­men­tary School. In­ter­me­di­ate/ad­vanced level course (grades 7-9): Span­ish Fork Ju­nior High School and Maple­ton Ju­nior High School.

Nebo School Dis­trict has an­nounced the win­ners of its an­nual stu­dent Christ­mas Card con­test. They are:

First Place: Ruby Camp­bell, Ninth Grade, Span­ish Fork Ju­nior. Teacher: Mr. David Hughes-Mill­man. Ruby’s de­sign was used as the cover for 2015 Nebo School Dis­trict Christ­mas card.

Se­cond Place: Jane Wil­son, Sev­enth Grade, Springville Ju­nior High School. Teacher: Mrs. Taneya Eli­son. Jane’s de­sign was used as the cover for 2015 Nebo Ed­u­ca­tion Foun­da­tion Christ­mas card.

Third Place: Shel­bee Reid, Sev­enth Grade, Salem Ju­nior. Teacher: Lisa Mag­nus­son.
