Nebo weld­ing stu­dents ex­cel in com­pe­ti­tion

All high schools in Nebo School District were well rep­re­sented at the Nebo Weld­ing In­vi­ta­tional held Jan. 22.

Weld­ing win­ners were: First place, Fil­imone Tukuafu, Span­ish Fork High School; se­cond place, Colton Har­ness, Maple Moun­tain High School; third place, Corbin Cox, Span­ish Fork High School; fourth place, McKade Mecham, Span­ish Fork High School; and fifth place, Grady Hall, Salem Hills High School.

The top three win­ners were awarded weld­ing pack­ages do­nated by Miller Elec­tric and Lin­coln Elec­tric val­ued over $300 each. Wy­otech also pro­vided a $5,000 cash schol­ar­ship to the col­lege of their choice. More than 20 gen­er­ous com­pa­nies spon­sored the event.

All of the top weld­ing com­peti­tors from each school will be rep­re­sent­ing Nebo School District at the an­nual SkillsUSA com­pe­ti­tion in April in the weld­ing and weld­ing fab­ri­ca­tion cat­e­gories.

In ad­di­tion, Nebo School District’s weld­ing col­lab­o­ra­tive group will be host­ing a “Weld­ing Expo” that will bridge the gap be­tween education and ca­reer readi­ness on Satur­day, April 23, at the Span­ish Fork Fair­grounds from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pro­fes­sional fab­ri­ca­tors, spon­sors, unions and stu­dents from across the state have been in­vited to at­tend.

There is a Drift Trike com­pe­ti­tion for the weld­ing stu­dents as well as many more op­por­tu­ni­ties for the at­ten­dees to ex­pe­ri­ence and re­al­ize the fu­ture of weld­ing within our so­ci­ety. The expo will be free to the pub­lic.
