Springville Mayor’s Recog­ni­tion Awards given

Once a month, de­serv­ing Springville stu­dents and their fam­i­lies fill the city coun­cil cham­bers as Mayor Wil­ford Clyde and the city coun­cil present the Mayor’s Recog­ni­tion Awards. Stu­dents are nom­i­nated from the com­mu­nity and rec­og­nized for their good works and out­stand­ing char­ac­ter. Last month, Demmi Nava, Ethan Robert­son and Car­men Payne were pre­sented with the honor.

Demmi is a se­nior at Springville High School and is the daugh­ter of Sil­via and David Nava. Demmi is not only serv­ing in stu­dent gov­ern­ment but is also the pres­i­dent of Lati­nos in Ac­tion. She is a role model for many stu­dents and es­pe­cially those she tu­tors at Sage Creek El­e­men­tary School. SHS teacher Ivan Car­de­nas de­scribes Demmi as com­mit­ted, a true starter and a proud Red Devil.

Ethan Robert­son is a fourth-grader at Sage Creek and is the son of Whit­ney and Jed Robert­son. Ethan works very hard ev­ery day to im­prove him­self. He is cur­rently learn­ing Chi­nese. Ethan is kind and of­ten shows ser­vice in the class­room by putting away chairs and clean­ing. He is al­ways will­ing to work with ev­ery­one. His nom­i­na­tor, Suzy Wil­liams, wants Ethan to be rec­og­nized for all the good­ness, warmth and light he shares with oth­ers.

Car­men Payne is a busy se­nior at SHS. She is of­ten found in the mid­dle of ser­vice projects. She has held cloth­ing, shoe, book and toy drives re­sult­ing in more than 65 trash bags full of do­na­tions. Car­men is a mem­ber of the var­sity volleyball and track teams. Nom­i­na­tor Bobbi Kas­sel has ob­served that Car­men al­ways goes out of her way to in­clude oth­ers and make ev­ery­one feel a part of the team. Car­men is the daugh­ter of Brid­get and Bruce Payne.
