Springville City hires new li­brary di­rec­tor

The Springville City mayor and city coun­cil have an­nounced the hir­ing of Dan Mick­el­son as di­rec­tor of the Springville Pub­lic Li­brary. Mick­el­son will re­place for­mer Li­brary Di­rec­tor Pam Vaughn, who is re­tir­ing af­ter work­ing 11 years for Springville City.

Mick­el­son comes to the Springville Pub­lic Li­brary with 15 years of li­brary ex­pe­ri­ence and more than eight years in li­brary man­age­ment at var­i­ous branches within the Garfield County Pub­lic Li­brary Dis­trict lo­cated in western Colorado. Dur­ing his time there, he was able to be a key part of the de­sign and open­ing of a new li­brary fa­cil­ity. His pas­sion for in­no­va­tive li­brary ser­vices, pro­grams and ser­vices at­tracted him to the Springville Pub­lic Li­brary where he is ex­cited to work with both staff and com­mu­nity mem­bers.

Both Mick­el­son and his wife Ash­ley re­ceived their un­der­grad­u­ate de­grees in vis­ual arts from Brigham Young Uni­ver­sity and are ex­cited to make the Art City their home. Mick­el­son went on to ob­tain his mas­ter’s de­gree in li­brary and in­for­ma­tion sci­ence from Clar­ion Uni­ver­sity of Penn­syl­va­nia and con­tin­ues a life-long learn­ing quest with his in­volve­ment in the Amer­i­can Li­brary As­so­ci­a­tion’s Cer­ti­fied Pub­lic Li­brary Ad­min­is­tra­tor pro­gram.
