Learn how to fend off bul­lies with Ver­bal Judo

Your Fam­ily Mat­ters is a new free monthly se­ries de­signed to strengthen fam­i­lies and com­mu­ni­ties. Chil­dren are al­ways in­vited. The se­ries is held at Merit Acad­emy, lo­cated at 1440 W. Cen­ter in Springville.

On Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., Your Fam­ily Mat­ters will present an evening with Allen Hughes, the “Bully Ex­pert,” who will teach tech­niques and skills that will give your child the con­fi­dence and tools to rec­og­nize and de-es­ca­late neg­a­tive sit­u­a­tions with bul­lies. The owner of Springville Self De­fense and VP of Won­jin Hap­kido, Mas­ter Hughes teaches Ver­bal Judo, a tac­tic used by more than 1 mil­lion po­lice of­fi­cers.Hughes be­lieves real de­fense is not fancy kicks and flips, but true prin­ci­ples of self de­fense, must in­clude ver­bal tech­niques.
