McKee Baking Co., maker of Little Debbie Snack Cakes, planned a $5.5 million expansion of the Gentry plant, Dan Beeman, employee relations manager at the plant, said.

The expansion would double the plant’s work force and double its output as well.

The plant, in Gentry for almost six years, employed 356 people. When the two-year construction was completed, the number of production lines at the plant would go from four lines to a total of nine lines.

Beeman said that the plant’s expansion was due to projected increases in demand for Little Debbie products.
