JBU run­ners com­pete at SAC Cham­pi­onships

SHAWNEE, Okla. — Ju­nior Josh Uzelac qual­i­fied for his third-con­sec­u­tive ap­pear­ance at the NAIA Na­tional Cham­pi­onships, and the John Brown Univer­sity men’s cross coun­try team pieced to­gether a sea­son-best time to grab fourth place at the Sooner Ath­letic Con­fer­ence Cham­pi­onships, held Satur­day at the Gor­don Cooper Tech­nol­ogy Cen­ter.

Uzelac’s time of 26 min­utes, 18.9 sec­onds was not only the third time he’s paced the JBU har­ri­ers this sea­son, but it also set a sea­son-best mark in the process, land­ing him All-Con­fer­ence accolades and a trip to the NAIA Na­tional Cham­pi­onships on Nov. 18 at the Fort Van­cou­ver Na­tional His­toric Site in Van­cou­ver, Wash.

Al­most join­ing Uzelac at the cham­pi­onships was ju­nior Ja­cob Ben­jamin, who missed All-Con­fer­ence hon­ors and a trip to Van­cou­ver, Wash. by one place, com­ing in at 16th over­all in a time of 26:29.4.

The Golden Ea­gles fin­ished with a time of 2:15:08, best­ing its pre­vi­ous sea­son­low time by 36 sec­onds.

Fresh­man Ben Martin closed out a stel­lar fresh­man sea­son with a 26:59.5 time to land in 20th over­all while sopho­more El­liot Pearon and ju­nior Michael Games fin­ished shortly af­ter.

Pear­son reg­is­tered a 34th place fin­ish with a 27:43.6 af­ter Games landed 31st over­all in a time of 27:36.7.
