JBU runners compete at SAC Championships
SHAWNEE, Okla. — Junior Josh Uzelac qualified for his third-consecutive appearance at the NAIA National Championships, and the John Brown University men’s cross country team pieced together a season-best time to grab fourth place at the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships, held Saturday at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center.
Uzelac’s time of 26 minutes, 18.9 seconds was not only the third time he’s paced the JBU harriers this season, but it also set a season-best mark in the process, landing him All-Conference accolades and a trip to the NAIA National Championships on Nov. 18 at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash.
Almost joining Uzelac at the championships was junior Jacob Benjamin, who missed All-Conference honors and a trip to Vancouver, Wash. by one place, coming in at 16th overall in a time of 26:29.4.
The Golden Eagles finished with a time of 2:15:08, besting its previous seasonlow time by 36 seconds.
Freshman Ben Martin closed out a stellar freshman season with a 26:59.5 time to land in 20th overall while sophomore Elliot Pearon and junior Michael Games finished shortly after.
Pearson registered a 34th place finish with a 27:43.6 after Games landed 31st overall in a time of 27:36.7.
