Simple Grace - - Mood Index -

Dear child, while your body’s limitations will require you to accept help from others, you’re misunderstanding a beautiful truth: Receiving the gift of kindness that another offers does not demean you—it lifts both you and your neighbor higher, moving you toward your Father’s kingdom.

Did you ever play

Leap Frog when you were young? The only way the group can move forward is to fully give (by leaning over) and fully receive (by leaping over others to get to the front of the line). This alternation of roles moves the entire group forward leap by leap, turn by turn.

Now imagine that one of those children becomes reticent about relying on others in the form of leaning on them so as to leap over them: The progress of the entire group is halted. This is why I ask you to humble yourself and accept help as freely as you give: When you do, you strengthen the bonds of loving compassion that pull you and others closer to your Father and to Me.

Let’s strengthen the bonds between us now: Send Me a surge of joyful, childlike love so the Holy Spirit can bring you My love in answer. Open your heart to let this richness flood in. As you accept the gifts of love and comfort the Spirit brings, feel your spirit lift and move closer to Me. Rest in our communion for five minutes, and you’ll emerge both lighter and stronger. Thank you for sharing the beauty of giving and receiving with Me.

—John 13:8 NASB

Peter said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”
