A READER ASKS
“Dear Lord, I try to start each day with an upbeat attitude, but I can’t sustain it. It dips a little when I smile at the coffee-shop cashier and she doesn’t smile back, then drops further when I ask my coworkers if they had a nice evening and they’re all doom and gloom. By the third or fourth sour response to my cheery overtures, I feel sour myself! Please help!”
—Paul in his first letter to the Thessalonians, 5:11
