Filling another’s sails
A READER ASKS
“Dear Lord, my son has made a new friend since school let out, and I can tell his mom is struggling—but she won’t accept my assistance. I gave her son a shirt that mine outgrew, and she sent it back. Then last week I offered her some extra lasagna I made, and she said, ‘Thanks, but I can feed my own family.’ I’ve been where she is: How can I encourage her to let me help?”

We understand and yet… It’s frustrating when those in need won’t take the helping hand we extend. We understand their pride—we have plenty of it too. But is there a way to work around it?
