“Dear Lord, my son has made a new friend since school let out, and I can tell his mom is strug­gling—but she won’t ac­cept my as­sis­tance. I gave her son a shirt that mine out­grew, and she sent it back. Then last week I of­fered her some ex­tra lasagna I made, and she said, ‘Thanks, but I can feed my own fam­ily.’ I’ve been where she is: How can I en­cour­age her to let me help?”

We un­der­stand and yet… It’s frus­trat­ing when those in need won’t take the help­ing hand we ex­tend. We un­der­stand their pride—we have plenty of it too. But is there a way to work around it?
