“Dear Lord, my mother-in-law is visiting this weekend and I’m still reeling from the blow she dealt me at Christmas: When we assured her we were still trying to have children, she said it was high time I faced that I was ‘barren’! We had a huge fight, and though I’ve been trying to forgive her for my husband’s sake, I can’t. How do I kiss and make up with someone who was so vile to me?”

Wisdom of the Word

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

—Paul in a letter to the Ephesians, 4:32

We understand and yet…

Sometimes it feels like forgiveness will leave us open to being hurt again. When someone shows they’re willing to be cruel, how can we give them the okay to do it again?
