Traveling with the Warren Miller film crew for the first time, Salt Lake City-based Dash didn’t know what to expect. “[Cinematographer] Tom Day was amazing,” he says. “He made me feel like I was part of the creative process.” And the crew would need to get creative: The 12-day trip (“Playing Host,” page 92) would be plagued with weather challenges. At one point, the crew skinned nearly three hours, then waited another three for the weather to break. “It was so cold we built snow caves to stay warm,” Dash says. Despite the difficulties, he wouldn’t change a thing. “The people we met were wonderful. They made us feel like we were home.”
