Be proactive about melting snow. Always start with a little water in the pot to avoid an unpleasant burned flavor. Don’t wait until people are out of water to start melting snow.
Take advantage of any sunlight during the day to dry out damp sleeping bags and other gear.
Before going to sleep, fill up a water bottle (tightly closed) with warm water and place it in your sleeping bag. This will add a little warmth and ensure there’s water, not ice, available for the morning.
Jam boot liners and gloves in the bottom of your sleeping bag to increase the odds that they’ll be dry (and warm) come morning.
