Howdy Snow Cats! If you think all this rain is an indication for the snow pack in North Dakota, you are probably right. Normal snow fall and cold temps are the prediction and sure hope the weather man is right! It’s time to look over your sleds, nuts, bolts tight, extra boogie wheels, plugs and belt? Give your sled a good look over before the season starts will save you troubles later. Not a good feeling to hold up the crew when you start riding. SND has some legislative work to do the next N.D. legislative session; here is a snapshot of what to expect:
1. Snowmobile Registration Process/Management (get NDPR to manage this instead of NDDOT) 2. Snowmobile Registration Fee Increase (ensure there is enough funding to purchase equipment to maintain the trails when government grants are no longer available, possible $10 increase per year) 3. Dealer-Snowmobile Registration (establish a requirement that the dealer mandate registration) 4. Youth Snowmobile Operation (possible lower the age to 10/12 with safety certificate/direct parent supervision)
SND board will be looking for a lobbyist and will need you to show your support this year to possibly get the task accomplished. So get ready to write some letters to your local legislator and wear your favorite snowmobile jacket to the meeting. We will give you a heads up when the time is known. Be sure to make your first Snowmobile club meeting, bring a friend, you don’t want to miss out on the fun runs and new events this year.
You may want to submit your new trail changes as soon as possible. There are more water hazards this year with all the rain. Getting them in early will help the office to prepare/approve the changes. Are you ready for signing the trails? Make sure you get to the SND Convention for that certification. Don’t forget to have a fantastic time there too! Happy Snowy trails to you!
