Rais­ing taxes dis­cour­ages growth of the community

To the Ed­i­tor:

It ap­pears that Soud­er­ton is learn­ing a fun­da­men­tal truth of tax­a­tion: Rais­ing tax rates does not re­sult in pro­por­tional in­creases in tax UHYHnuH (/DIIHU &uUYH).

Per­haps the coun­cil should con­sider that rais­ing these var­i­ous taxes also dis­cour­ages the growth of our comPunLWy (RuU WDx EDVH) DnG look “even harder” for ways to both re­duce ex­penses not linked to fun­da­men­tal ac­tiv­i­ties and only then more di­rectly raise rev­enues for other ac­tiv­i­ties at the point of con­sump­tion. The pri­vate sec­tor is rightly forced to do the same.
